How it began
Transparency is a fundamental human need
In 2004, Pure's founder Shawn sat across from his clients — both PhDs, both accomplished, both frustrated. During one of their conversations a pointed observation was made: every financial advisor sounds the same. The same marketing material. The same proposals. The same carefully constructed confidence with nothing objective behind it.
Shawn listened. And then he said something he had never said to a client before.
"Don't you wish I could turn my laptop around and show you the performance of every client I manage?"
Sue stared at him. Said nothing. A full minute passed. Then she said: "I would pay for that."
What followed was a conversation about something the industry had never wanted to name out loud. The isolation retail investors live in. The anxiety that comes from trusting people with everything you have worked for and having no objective way to verify that trust.
That night Shawn knew he had to build the solution. But the technology was not ready. He was too early. He knew it. And he also knew something else — that transparency is not a feature. It is a fundamental human need. That this idea would withstand time.
